Hello Blue Bow Friends! It's my annual Fall Session Blog! Has it been a year already? lol.
San Diego has so much to offer which is why I love this very busy season. I get to see familiar faces, meet new beautiful clients and get to explore some of my favorite San Diego locations. 
First, decide if a 20 minute session or FULL session is best for your family.  The style of images you want to display in your home, or print on your holiday card might be more in line with a full session.  If you have a child who might take a few minutes to warm up to new surroundings, or you want to have lots of time for candids and want to run, laugh and play with the kiddos, a full length session might be ideal.

Sunset Beach Sessions

Ahhhhhh, the beach, my most requested location!  San Diego has gorgeous sunset weather throughout the fall and winter months.  The colors shift hour to hour and day to day depending on cloud coverage, marine layer and dry Santa Ana winds.   I offer two sessions. On a clear, sunny day, the earlier sessions will have very warm, beautiful tones from the lowering sun and the later session can have the soft, painterly pastel horizon light that kisses the sand after sunset. Both session times are full of color and the beauty of the sea. Even when it's grey from a marine layer, the beach is always gorgeous!

Our 2020 Beach Sessions are an investment of $395 for a 25 minute session.
10 retouched, high resolution digital images are included in your session fee.

Coronado - Ocean Blvd

Coronado offers some great details to include in your family's portraits including the surrounding sand dunes which can add a really fun visual interest to your portraits and keeps your kids out of the water for a few minutes lol.  There is a good amount of parking available which is also a huge benefit.

Beach- Hotel del Coronado

Giant rocks, beautiful golden sand and the iconic Hotel del Coronado give this option some great textures and colors. There are definitely more people walking around this side of Coronado, so if you have little ones who are easily distracted, you might want to consider the other Coronado option above. During lower tides, there is a gorgeous reflection in the sand from the retreating waves.

La Jolla - Windansea

Another gorgeous beach in La Jolla is Windansea.  The surrounding sea rocks bring in a nice texture and there is a decent amount of parking in the surrounding residential areas.

Eucalyptus Grove- Morning and Afternoon

This is about as woodsy as we get in California, the land of palm trees! I'm not complaining though. I love the warm tones from this location which work perfectly with traditional fall wardrobe colors.
Have an early riser at home?  This location is great for morning sessions! 
Keep in mind, the ground is full of leaves, twigs and roots so comfortable shoes are suggested and this location is not recommended for anyone with mobility issues.

Cactus Garden, Balboa Park

Soft hues and beautiful diffused light make the desert garden at Balboa Park a yearly favorite. 
Also partly a blank canvas in certain areas so your kids' solo portraits really stand out and show off their adorable faces. It's a great location!
Make a night of it! After your family portraits, enjoy a stroll around beautiful Balboa Park or grab a bite under the market lights at Panama 66 or the Prado.
*There are a lot of thorns, prickly pears and other spiny cacti. I do not recommend this location for young toddlers who want to touch everything in sight! Take it from me, a cactus stuck in your hand is no fun. lol.

Old Poway Park - Morning

Autumn Trails

Looking for an actual Fall vibe?  Look no further. These changing colors and fallen leaves are picture perfect in November and it might just be cool enough in San Diego (finally) to wear boots and sweaters.  Am I the only one who desperately looks forward to sweater weather?? *This location is not ideal for people with mobility issues.

Balboa Park- Organ Pavilion- Morning

Morning sessions are wonderful for families with young children who might fade in the late afternoon hours. They have just woke up and are usually happy and joyful to be going out for an adventure.  After your Balboa session, visit one of the yummy nearby Donut shops.  The creme brulee´ at Donut Bar downtown or a horchata Mexican hot chocolate from Nomad Donuts in North Park will be sure to start your day off on a sweet note. Yum City!  (And for the record I will tell you that 90% of my morning sessions bribe their kids with donuts after they are done haha. It's become an on going joke because it really is everyone's bribe. Hey, whatever works, right! EVERYONE loves a good donut!)

Iron Mt. 

Golden sunsets, picturesque mountains and the Hall of Trees.  It's a beautiful location, but very warm light as the sun sets directly in the path of where we shoot so a love for some of that warm, sunset light is a must!

Los Penasquitos

This is a very pretty location with some gorgeous spots! It's a little whimsical in areas, neutral in others and no shortage of fun textures and details.  This requires a bit of a hike through some uneven ground so I do not recommend it for strollers or anyone with mobility issues.

Harry Griffen Park- La Mesa

Harry Griffen Park has two options for this session. The earlier session has beautiful diffused light, eucalyptus trees and a big grassy area for kiddos to run and show off their personalities... and the later session has a more neutral, golden trail, wooden footbridge with some fun textures and beautiful golden light at sunset.

Sweetwater Bridge and Trails

Sweetwater Bridge is a great location for anyone with mobility issues.  Parking is right before the photo area so if you have an elderly family member or someone in a wheelchair, this is a great option. The bridge has a nice rustic feel and some beautiful colors from the trees that sometimes spill over the architectural beams.

Fall Leaves

Our Annual Fall Leaves sessions take place on my property in East County. They are one of our most requested sessions due to the beautiful fall tones and gorgeous light as well as the ease for families with young children. There is plenty of parking just steps away, a restroom nearby, no risk of rattlesnakes or poison oak like some of the main trails and no crowds or strangers walking around to distract your kids. It's a win-win for families! This location is wheelchair and stroller accessible and your pup is welcome to join as well!

This setup will be a memorable time for your kiddos with a super sweet touch of JOY! This set is adorably fun for siblings and cousins.  Up to 5 younger children or 3 older children will fit with this backdrop.  This session takes place outdoors and all props will be sanitized between sessions. Family Tree Farm

Our Annual Family Tree Farm sessions are back!  This is one of our most requested sessions each year!
Real Nobel firs will be the backdrop for this session with a variety of cute holiday decor.  Snuggle together and read your baby a Christmas story, have your daughter place an ornament on the tree and capture that classic holiday card portrait that will bring a smile to Grandma's face. This set is fun as well as interactive for kids.  They can place ornaments and decorate the tree in case they have trouble sitting still.
